  • In the development of this product we feel that we are taking a bold step by forcing the issue and bringing about a seed change in the traditionally very conservative instrumentation sector. Function and price are still the key “must have” factors but I believe that if we can also give our customers a sexy looking product then that will also become a key aspirational attribute. DesignEdge’s in-depth understanding of manufacturing and engineering allowed it to work alongside Michell like an extension to the engineering team. DesignEdge got on with the ‘real’ design as soon as possible rather than producing reams of heavily stylised but wholly impractical sketches. I prefer that way of working and think that the results speak for themselves.”

  • Customers have since commented on how great the product looks, so we’re now in no doubt that using outside good designers with the right experience was the right thing to do.” Racelogic VBOX technology is now used by almost every car manufacturer and tyre company in the world for testing and DriftBox is the first vehicle performance meter with the ability to measure drift angle. Winning the Queen’s Award for Enterprise is the highest honour which can be bestowed on a UK business; it is considered the equivalent of a ‘corporate knighthood!’

  • We wanted to develop an instrument that made everything else used by an electrician feel much more comfortable and easy to use than they did before. The design is so clean and functional that it manages to make something very complex look very simple, but it won’t cross our users’ minds that design has been involved in developing the product. There are no buried functions which mean it’s obvious how to use it and it features colour-coded ranges to help test selection and reduce testing time. A user guide in the lid provides all the basic information. At the customers’ request it’s also designed to take the bashing that meters receive on site.”

  • Although the modulator is a component that ultimately ends up buried inside a cellular or WiMAX base station, the aesthetic design is still important since we want the product, and Nujira’s brand to be easily and readily identifiable. It could be just another boring component and the extra effort to make the design aesthetically pleasing is definitely worthwhile. This is where DesignEdge’s knowledge of mechanics, materials and manufacturing techniques helps. While design can be the main priority with consumer products there are restrictions on more technical products, this type of design has very stringent cost, quality and technical objectives that must be met. The customers for the Nujira product are the world’s leading mobile infrastructure vendors who are working in a very competitive industry with very demanding customers; the network operators. Product reliability is very important and the thermal and mechanical design of the product directly influences this.”

  • ELIMINATA® Energy Savers use ‘Plug-in and Forget’ smart technology to adapt to existing office appliances and deliver quick pay back – often within 12 months. DesignEdge’s awareness of market requirements, in-depth knowledge of high-volume manufacture and understanding of technological innovation combined with extensive polymer knowledge was the key to the project’s success. Our eyes were opened to new possibilities and we will be working with DesignEdge on our next generation of energy reducing products.”

  • With the now well established relationship between DesignEdge and the Genevac development team our latest system builds on and complements the cutting edge design of the award-winning Rocket. Design Edge worked patiently and effectively with the Genevac team, guiding us through numerous iterations of the concept whilst adapting to our constantly evolving requirements. They enabled us to achieve a final design which represents the now recognisable Genevac brand image of sleek lines combined with rugged functionality. One of their the best designs yet, we are delighted with the reception the Series 3 HT has received in our industry and look forward to working with DesignEdge on future projects.

  • We have made educational robots for 30 years, longer than any other company. With our latest Roamer the challenge was to bring our experience and creativity together within state-of-the art technology. In these situations the challenge is to ensure the design quality matches the vision. DesignEdge met that challenge going further, adding value to the concept with excellent detailed design. The devil is always in the detail and here they were exceptional, we are moulding some components to tolerances that moulders claimed impossible.”

  • Working with Design Edge on the development of the Rocket™ has delivered our second award-winning instrument design. The eye-catching design is memorable and iconic, gaining a high degree of product and brand recognition in the market. The ergonomics of the system are superb, delivering ease of use and comfortable operation. The integration between the team at Design Edge and our in-house engineers was effective and efficient, with drawings, plans and images delivered on time, and taking into account product and cost constraints inherent in the project. Design Edge is a great development partner and our “secret weapon” in product innovation.”
