In good company

DesignEdge was established in 1992 and has a proven track record for award-winning and commercially successful product development. We are located in Stow-cum-Quy, three miles east of Cambridge, the great University city and near the A14 with plenty of on-site car parking. DesignEdge can launch your product idea into reality. Our aim is to combine innovation and styling excellence to add value and reduce your assembly, materials and part costs. Working with DesignEdge can open up new design possibilities and provide you with the competitive edge, to find out more contact us to start your project.

  • We engaged DesignEdge Cambridge Ltd over the course of three iterations of our in-ear headsets (our Biometric headset, Qualcomm TrueWireless Earbuds and sports wired version of the Qualcomm TrueWireless Earbuds). Our engagement lasted several months and resulted in the production of three form factors for our projects for our internal use during which time DesignEdge provided us with extremely valuable technical guidance, design help and support for our projects. We unveiled the headsets at CES in January 2018 and they have since received positive recognition in the market.”

  • Our product range has evolved through acquisition so had a very disparate look. Our latest launch, our biggest ever, gave us the opportunity to put some design thought into the range and then follow it through everything we do. Although our products are for industrial use it’s important that they look like the ground-breaking pieces of engineering that they are. DesignEdge’s great understanding of our sector and also the way they bring good looks into a design – often pushing the boundaries further than we would have considered in-house – has resulted in a fantastic looking range of which we can definitely be proud and stand out from the competition.”

  • In the development of this product we feel that we are taking a bold step by forcing the issue and bringing about a seed change in the traditionally very conservative instrumentation sector. Function and price are still the key “must have” factors but I believe that if we can also give our customers a sexy looking product then that will also become a key aspirational attribute. DesignEdge’s in-depth understanding of manufacturing and engineering allowed it to work alongside Michell like an extension to the engineering team. DesignEdge got on with the ‘real’ design as soon as possible rather than producing reams of heavily stylised but wholly impractical sketches. I prefer that way of working and think that the results speak for themselves.”

  • Good design is now a lot more important to opticians, due to the competition. It’s now good to have nice looking equipment to let customers know that you provide a quality service. Our equipment now fits in nicely with the other equipment that opticians have in their practice. It’s been very well received in the industry. In fact so much so that we are now looking to modify other products using the techniques we have learned. I really believe it is the best union of form and function.”

  • I have worked with DesignEdge on a number of projects over a number of years and have always found them to be not only very professional but able to produce innovative and stylish designs. Our first project, the PalmScope, proved highly successful and I’m sure the design and styling of the injection moulded casing played its part in that success. Our next project, the Personal Video Assistant (PVA) is still at a relatively early stage of maturity but DesignEdge has taken the plastic casing design to a new level with very fine tolerances. I will have no hesitation in going back to them for future designs.”

  • Design Edge and ARC Medical Design have been working closely for a number of years to develop innovative medical products for identifying precancerous lesions in screening colonoscopy. Design Edge has a highly experienced team dedicated to creating novel solutions to difficult problems. Their approach of combining thought provoking simple and beautiful designs that can be mass produced for a worldwide market is why ARC has chosen them for all their design work.”

  • Our business depends on developing high performance technology for microscopy based applications and providing this to our customers both in the form of OEM modules and finished products. We started working with DesignEdge about 5 years ago and their involvement has transformed our business. I have no hesitation in recommending them to any company needing to bring products to market with confidence that the required functionality and appearance have been professionally designed at a reasonable cost.”

Maurice Bowe | Managing Director | Objective Imaging
  • Although the modulator is a component that ultimately ends up buried inside a cellular or WiMAX base station, the aesthetic design is still important since we want the product, and Nujira’s brand to be easily and readily identifiable. It could be just another boring component and the extra effort to make the design aesthetically pleasing is definitely worthwhile. This is where DesignEdge’s knowledge of mechanics, materials and manufacturing techniques helps. While design can be the main priority with consumer products there are restrictions on more technical products, this type of design has very stringent cost, quality and technical objectives that must be met. The customers for the Nujira product are the world’s leading mobile infrastructure vendors who are working in a very competitive industry with very demanding customers; the network operators. Product reliability is very important and the thermal and mechanical design of the product directly influences this.”

Stirling Essex | Project Manager | Nujira
  • “DisplayLink is a chip and software company whose technology is used in products from the world’s leading PC and peripheral brands. Our DisplayLink XR technology enables a wireless VR experience, freeing the user from a long cable tether while delivering uncompromising video quality and latency indistinguishable from a wired solution. DisplayLink was looking to build a wireless VR adapter to demonstrate the technology and employed the services of DesignEdge who share our passion for creating beautiful products. The distinctive design is a careful balance of the requirements for thermal management, ergonomic, aesthetic, manufacturability, functionality and performance. DesignEdge presented a number of initial concepts that demonstrated their understanding of our needs. The considerable knowledge and experience of the team at DesignEdge allowed the concept to quickly evolved into a fully functional reference design fit for small volume production. The product has gone on to be the centre stage attraction at our stand at CES 2018 and helped promote wireless VR.”
