  • We have made educational robots for 30 years, longer than any other company. With our latest Roamer the challenge was to bring our experience and creativity together within state-of-the art technology. In these situations the challenge is to ensure the design quality matches the vision. DesignEdge met that challenge going further, adding value to the concept with excellent detailed design. The devil is always in the detail and here they were exceptional, we are moulding some components to tolerances that moulders claimed impossible.”

  • Everything is powered by a single centralised hi-power Lithium Ion battery which is automatically charged by your cycling and because everything is built into the bike there’s nothing to steal and nothing to carry away at the end of your ride; no lights, batteries and locks. The seat is big and fully adjustable whilst built in suspension both front and back makes for a very comfortable ride while the sealed shaft-drive replaces the standard oily chain. SiCOOL® is a test bed for a raft of new safety features and innovations built into a lean and light frame aimed at the ‘about town’ road cyclist.”

  • There is a relentless drive for ever smaller electronic products and storage technologies are responding to this call allowing product designers to work at smaller geometries. Designers need to attempt to differentiate these products at this smaller size. The company believes that the concept designs shown at CeBIT will inspire designers and manufacturers of next generation, smart mobile accessories. The new applications and products are limited only by the imagination of our manufacturing partners.”

  • Although the modulator is a component that ultimately ends up buried inside a cellular or WiMAX base station, the aesthetic design is still important since we want the product, and Nujira’s brand to be easily and readily identifiable. It could be just another boring component and the extra effort to make the design aesthetically pleasing is definitely worthwhile. This is where DesignEdge’s knowledge of mechanics, materials and manufacturing techniques helps. While design can be the main priority with consumer products there are restrictions on more technical products, this type of design has very stringent cost, quality and technical objectives that must be met. The customers for the Nujira product are the world’s leading mobile infrastructure vendors who are working in a very competitive industry with very demanding customers; the network operators. Product reliability is very important and the thermal and mechanical design of the product directly influences this.”

  • Design Edge has been vital throughout our entire product development. Their ability to convert our technology ideas and market requirements into workable, robust solutions has been essential to our success. Their team have a wealth of knowledge and expertise; and rapidly assimilate the information they need to come up with clever, innovative designs with manufacturing and certification in mind. We are now moving forward with Design Edge’s help, in the prototyping of other rapid tests for diagnosing infectious conditions.”

  • Customers have since commented on how great the product looks, so we’re now in no doubt that using outside good designers with the right experience was the right thing to do.” Racelogic VBOX technology is now used by almost every car manufacturer and tyre company in the world for testing and DriftBox is the first vehicle performance meter with the ability to measure drift angle. Winning the Queen’s Award for Enterprise is the highest honour which can be bestowed on a UK business; it is considered the equivalent of a ‘corporate knighthood!’

  • We engaged DesignEdge Cambridge Ltd over the course of three iterations of our in-ear headsets (our Biometric headset, Qualcomm TrueWireless Earbuds and sports wired version of the Qualcomm TrueWireless Earbuds). Our engagement lasted several months and resulted in the production of three form factors for our projects for our internal use during which time DesignEdge provided us with extremely valuable technical guidance, design help and support for our projects. We unveiled the headsets at CES in January 2018 and they have since received positive recognition in the market”

Nicolas Graube | VP Technology | Qualcomm Technologies International
  • The company was announced as the winner in the Consumer Product Design category at the Design Week Awards, in recognition of the design of its wireless home monitoring and security service. To have our team’s efforts at making objects of desire of home security and energy management recognized by these highly acclaimed awards is absolutely thrilling. Receiving equal status with the Apple MacBook Air at the Design Week Awards is praise indeed! Our thanks go to our industrial designers DesignEdge, for a truly cracking job.”

  • In the development of this product we feel that we are taking a bold step by forcing the issue and bringing about a seed change in the traditionally very conservative instrumentation sector. Function and price are still the key “must have” factors but I believe that if we can also give our customers a sexy looking product then that will also become a key aspirational attribute. DesignEdge’s in-depth understanding of manufacturing and engineering allowed it to work alongside Michell like an extension to the engineering team. DesignEdge got on with the ‘real’ design as soon as possible rather than producing reams of heavily stylised but wholly impractical sketches. I prefer that way of working and think that the results speak for themselves.”
