What We Delivered
Thermoteknix Systems Ltd is a world leading manufacturer of thermal imaging devices and has been operating since 1982. DesignEdge has worked with Thermoteknix successfully for well over a decade and was tasked with developing and implementing the industrial design for the TiCAM 600, a new series of handheld, medium-range thermal imaging monoculars. The challenge was to design a camera that would be lightweight, ergonomic and super tough to deliver excellent image quality for police and military medium range surveillance applications including Infantry, Special Forces, Search/Rescue, SWAT, Border Security, Target Acquisition, Counter Terror Operations, VIP Protection and for general night-time situational awareness.
Result
Utilising DesignEdge’s considerable experience in design for manufacture, particularly in detailing complex injection mouldings the TiCAM 600’s ergonomic clamshell enclosure was developed to be waterproof, protecting the camera in the harshest of environments and allowing operation with or without gloves. The combination of TiCAM’s class-leading MicroCAM® thermal imaging core and high-end Germanium 60mm lens with Hard Carbon protective coating delivers the sharpest imagery in a rugged, low power package. Functions include electronic focus and digital zoom, edge detection, video output and Digital Magnetic Compass, GPS, Internal Real-Time Digital Video Storage and 11 hours operation from 4 X AA batteries. TiCAM 600 can detect a man at over 2 kilometres.

Feature 1
The device operates for 6 hours on 4 x AA batteries and weighs just 630g including on-board batteries. Connections also allow external power and video output. Features include GPS, Digital Magnetic Compass (DMC), in-camera video and still image storage, X1/X2/X4 zoom and laser pointer (visible or IR).
Feature 2
TiCAM 600 records up to 11 hours of high quality digital video (48 hours on lower resolution), or over 60,000 still images. The data is simply downloaded to PC using TiCAM Sync software with the video record option. The unit also has external power input and a standard BNC video which can be connected to an auxiliary third party screen recorder.
