DesignEdge is an established industrial design and product development consultancy with over 20 years experience spanning: innovation management, concept generation, product definition, technical implementation and brand building communication. Based in Cambridge, DesignEdge was founded by Bruce Hutchison and Alasdair Barnett with the aim of transforming ideas and providing commercial achievement for forward-looking companies. Alasdair Barnett

Founder / Business Director

Alasdair Barnett attained a BSc in Industrial Design and Technology from Napier University. His skills centre around attention to design detail combined with a thorough understanding of all aspects of design and manufacturing. His design abilities range from initial product concepts, 3D CAD modelling through to rapid prototyping techniques, injection moulding componentry, full manufacturing documentation, business development and user validation studies.

Bruce Hutchison

Founder / Design Director

Bruce Hutchison is a BA Honours graduate from the world renowned University of Northumbria product design course. He is highly experienced in NPD delivering exceptional standards of innovative and technical design solutions. Bruce is keen to take on and implement new industrial design and mechanical engineering from ideation and advanced CAD surface modelling through to fully documented design for manufacture.

We engaged DesignEdge Cambridge Ltd over the course of three iterations of our in-ear headsets (our Biometric headset, Qualcomm TrueWireless Earbuds and sports wired version of the Qualcomm TrueWireless Earbuds). Our engagement lasted several months and resulted in the production of three form factors for our projects for our internal use during which time DesignEdge provided us with extremely valuable technical guidance, design help and support for our projects. We unveiled the headsets at CES in January 2018 and they have since received positive recognition in the market.
