What We Delivered

Key Objectives

Renishaw wanted an attention-grabbing style for its latest Raman spectroscopy system that would make it stand out from the crowd. Our challenge was to set the design standard for the range, striving for the perfect balance between performance, usability, ergonomics and size. Designs were developed through initial concepts and prototyping and into final manufacturing data release, this ensured that the client’s technical knowledge was leveraged, expediting the development process. A distinctive design language was developed combining soft but controlled shapes, intersecting simple volumes enriched with premium and sophisticated details. Broad radii and soft surfaces blend to create a friendly and approachable form factor.

Result

DesignEdge designed a practical and affordable system with a suite of RIM precision polyurethane parts with great visual impact within an eye-catching, sculptural form factor. The product design incorporates the engineering development of a unique, rotary flip over door that provides the user with a generous working area, good visibility and increased accessibility. The RA816 Biological Analyser is an easy to use, compact bench-top instrument that redefines tissue and biofluid analysis. Designed exclusively for the biological community, the system rapidly obtains detailed information on the distribution and amount of biochemical species within biological samples.

“The Biological Analyser is designed specifically for biological and clinical users. The analyser measures multiple molecular constituents in biological samples at once, saving both time and money. High specificity aids in the discovery and validation of early onset disease markers, making it the ideal tool for translating Raman to the clinic.”

An easy to use and compact benchtop Raman imaging system

The RA816 Biological Analyser enables you to identify and assess biochemical changes associated with disease formation and progression. There is little to no sample preparation, and no contrast agents or tags are needed. See our product design portfolio for other successful scientific and medical product designs.

Technical PU Mouldings are supported by a precision internal metal chassis.
DesignEdge engineered a flush fitting door which rotates above the stage to provide good user access.
The door handle is incorporated into the main door moulding and is secured with a magnetic interlock system.
The bottom cover is removable to provide easy access for optical stage maintenance.
Discrete on/off switch.
The neat design ensured there are no visible fasteners. The side cover is clamped into position and fasteners hidden at the rear.
Flexible membrane keypad overlay.
