What We Delivered
DesignEdge has provided industrial product design to Sentek successfully for over 20 years, who have become the UK’s largest independent manufacturer of electrochemical sensors, pH, conductivity and reference electrodes. When the iconic Sentek blue and orange cap was launched in 1998, it’s striking colour and original shape was a fresh approach to lab and testing equipment that could, at times be somewhat samey. Through innovative geometry and material experiences, the product design brief for the latest electrode range was to create something that was reassuringly reliable, enjoyable to use with a strong visual impact and market presence. Product design enhancements would explore an improved ergonomic refill seal, an easier to assemble grommet to fit various cable sizes, a non-refillable sensor version and component detail design for high volume manufacture.
Result
The outcome of our expert industrial product design was a high accuracy and reliable instrument, with careful design consideration in terms of the cosmetic finish on the complex suite of injection moulded parts. A key area to develop was zero-leakage technology on the fully remodelled refill seal, meaning refillable electrodes are ready to use straightaway, without the need to remove dried Kcl solution. DesignEdge also worked on the print including the cap branding and sensor specification conveniently displayed on the electrode stem for easy identification. Whether used for testing biological samples in a laboratory, monitoring pH in a brewery or the measurement of soil conductivity, the electrodes and their striking cap design reinforce the core Sentek brand and values, blending form and function for vital research, routine measurements or lessons in a chemistry classroom.

High quality materials and finishes have been utilised, from the robust ABS barrel to the flexible, durable properties of TPE. Refillable electrodes are ready to use straightaway without needing top-ups or removing dried Kcl solution through zero-leakage technology on a fully remodelled refill seal.
